Michigan Christmas Tree Business A Year Round Venture »

Thinking back I believe we only had one real Christmas tree.  I love the smell and going out on a snowy night to get a tree can surely put anyone in the holiday spirit.  But for one reason or another we have opted to go with the artificial tree.

I never really put much thought into what is involved running a Christmas Tree business, but a recent article opened my eyes to a business that not only requires year round maintenance, but it takes 8 to 10 years for a pine to mature be ready for sale.

Matthew and Ben Janke, two brothers have spent most of their lives working the family business in Allegan.  Read the rest of the story here.

Downriver Michigan Seniors Have New Resource »

Trenton, MI. November 5, 2008 – Downriver seniors now have a new resource to help them make life easier. Carol Williams recently completed a comprehensive course through the Society of Certified Senior Advisors® (SCSA) and earned the designation of Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)®. SCSA is an international organization that has trained more than 20,000 professionals to meet the needs of a growing senior population.

“The health, financial and social needs of seniors are different and more complicated than those of any other age group. SCSA keeps professionals from a wide variety of fields abreast of these issues by providing education, support and communication resources to those dedicated to serving seniors.” Williams said. The demographic shift requires an educated response in how professionals work with seniors and the challenges and opportunities they face, Williams said. “With more people living longer, we are already beginning to see changes in how seniors function in our society, from retirees who choose to start a second or third career, to various forms of alternate senior housing and  new approaches to exercise and overall  health care for seniors.”

As a CSA, Williams will participate in continuing education that emphasizes ethical selling and business practices and volunteer services specific to seniors. For more information call Carol Williams at 734-676-6643 or visit Comfort Keepers at www.comfortkeepers.com
